NEWSLETTER September 2011

Welcome to the first newsletter of the 2011/12 season, and my first newsletter following Gordon’s very successful tenure as Newsletter Editor.  The new committee, under Carol’s leadership, is now working on the programme for the forthcoming year and as usual we will keep you informed when events are confirmed.

Theatre Visit – Tickets Still Available

Saturday 8th October 2011

Chichester Festival Theatre

2.15pm matinee

Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, Stephen Sondheim’s acclaimed musical of corruption and revenge, tells the story of Sweeney Todd, returning to 19th century London after years of false imprisonment, looking for justice and retribution and avenging “the wrongs done to him and his family many years before.” Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton star in the leading roles.

On behalf of the Society, Irene and Denis Stephenson were fortunate to procure a number of tickets for this highly sought after musical. With the discount, we are able to offer £22.00 tickets for only £18.70 per person. Friends of members are also welcome.

“At Home”

Saturday 15th October 2011

Old School Hall, Cuckfield

7.30pm – 10.00pm

For our first get together of the autumn we will be meeting at our usual venue in Cuckfield.  There will be a welcome drink with nibbles providing a great opportunity to mingle and catch up on what everybody’s been doing over the summer.

As usual, we are asking Members to bring a plate of finger food, savoury or sweet, which will then be shared. Don’t forget to bring your own wine (and glasses) to enjoy with the food. Soft drinks and water will be available.

After savouring the delights of the Members’ hospitality, there may be a chance to shed a few calories and perhaps stimulate the brain cells. The cost for the evening will be £5.00 per person, children under 16 free, payable at the door. We look forward to seeing you there.

Action for Children

Saturday 22nd October 2011

Methodist Church Hall

Perrymount Road

Haywards Heath

MSCS has been asked by Action for Children to lead the dancing for another supper and Scottish country dance evening at the above location. Some of you may remember the one that was organised a couple of years ago. It was a great success with some demonstration dancing followed by Members trying to entice the Action for Children supporters to participate in some simple dances. It was great fun and a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

There will not be any demonstration dances this time, but there will be a programme of relatively easy dances to encourage participation, led by our own MCs, Chris and Lee Pratt. The dances will be walked through, and we will again be trying to get as many people as possible joining in.

Scottish Country Dancing

The annual November dance of the Crawley  Scottish Country Dancing Club will be at 7.00pm on Saturday 12 November at the Friary Hall, Haslett Avenue West, Crawley RH10 1HR.

£5.00 (£1.50 for young persons and non dancers) plus bring a plate of finger food.
