Welcome to the first newsletter of the 2012/13 season. The committee is now working
on the programme for the forthcoming year and, as usual, we will keep you informed
when events are confirmed.
Visit to Camelia Botnar Gardens
Littleworth Lane, Cowfold
Wednesday 11th July 2012
A group of 16 members paid a visit to the Camelia Botnar Gardens in July.
The gardens are run by The Camelia Botnar Foundation which was established in 1979
by Octav Botnar and his wife Marcela in memory of their only child Camelia, who was
killed in a car accident at the age of 20.
The Foundation provides residential training and work experience to help disadvantaged
young people from problem backgrounds to learn a skilled trade such as carpentry,
metalwork, pottery or horticulture and hence successfully make their own way in life.
We were met by the Head of the Horticulture Department who gave us a very interesting
talk on the Foundation followed by a tour of the Garden Centre, after which we adjourned
to the coffee shop for tea and cakes.
Saturday 13th October 2012
Old School Hall, Cuckfield
7.30pm – 10.00pm
For our first get together of the autumn we will be meeting at our usual venue in
Cuckfield. There will be a welcome drink with nibbles providing a great opportunity
to mingle and catch up on what everybody’s been doing over the summer.
As usual, we are asking Members to bring a plate of finger food, savoury or sweet,
which will then be shared. Please remember to bring your own wine and glasses to
enjoy with the food. Soft drinks and water will be available.
After savouring the delights of Members’ hospitality there will be a chance to dance
and shed those calories and perhaps a quiz to stimulate the brain cells. The cost
for the evening will be £5.00 per person (children under 16 free) payable at the
door. We look forward to seeing you there.
